Air, Wind and Fire vs. Faster, Further, Higher

Hi

My name is Florian and I am standing on my own two feet and, whenever possible, on a surf board. My own event and communications agency defines my working days. On top there are several stores in Travemünde, Heiligenhafen and St. Pauli. Because of all that a hard cut on the weekends is needed.

"Knowing how to correctly manage your own time is a long learning curve."

As an entrepreneur you always want everything to develop in a positive way, but you also need to learn that being unavailable sometimes, no matter what happens, is a good thing. Knowing how to correctly manage your own time is a long learning curve, a form of self-discipline which you first need to adopt. Perfectly balancing family and working time is hard during the week. I only manage a clean cut on the weekends. Even more important to spend this time exclusively and intensely with my family.

"We enjoy every single second."

My week is packed with to-dos and my boys really miss out oftentimes. Therefore, we enjoy our time together on the weekends even more. Then it’s all about relaxing, packing the bikes and leaving the hectic city behind to camp out in nature. For our little adventure we only pack what is necessary: sleeping bags and pads, stove, and a thermos. During these times, which are truly free of stress and disruption, we really enjoy every second.

"Feeling life is what it's all about."

I use the bike a lot in the city, simply to go out the door and be on my way immediately. Also, I like the sustainability idea and not always getting in the car is a big plus for me. Taking the kids to school, go groceries shopping or head out on a little adventure trip – all that you can do on a bike. Being outside in the fresh air, feeling the wind in your face and being conscious about life is what really counts.

"Time runs differently in nature."

Time is always an adversary during working hours. Especially in the city where things are generally very hectic and you get pulled in every direction around the clock, you permanently feel like chasing after your time. In nature, time runs a different pace, slower, more relaxed, what you experience there is guided by a whole different set of influences.

"Cycling is like surfing."

Just like surfing, where you always have an ear for wind and waves, you hear only the rush of wind and rustling leaves when riding your bike. Riding the waves when surfing, the rattling wheels on asphalt when skating or the crackling of tyres on gravel when cycling, it all triggers impulses and feelings that ground you and help you relax.

"Suddenly, you feel no more time limits."

In the city you are depending on an endless multitude of things. All having to do with timing, frequency, planning, etc. and somewhat binding us to the determination of others. When you leave the city, riding across rivers and bridges, getting closer to nature, you notice how you are slowing down more and more, and how relaxation sets in.

Having arrived outside you suddenly feel that there are no more time limits. We happily start unpacking our things, build a small fire, roll up in our sleeping bags and gaze at the stars. We did not bring an alarm clock, hopefully we will be woken by the birds the next morning.
